There are hundreds of "AI tools for marketers" lists online. Most of them are sponsored. This one isn't.
Here's how we evaluated: Did we actually use it? Did it save meaningful time? Would we pay for it if it weren't free?
Tier 1: Use These Every Day
ChatGPT (GPT-4o)
Still the best general-purpose AI for marketing work. Writing, editing, brainstorming, summarizing research, generating ad variations — it handles everything.
The catch: you need to know how to prompt it. Vague prompts get vague results. Good prompts get results you can actually use.
Best for: Copy drafts, email subject line testing, social post variations, research summaries.
Cost: Free (GPT-3.5) or $20/month (GPT-4o — worth it).
Claude (Anthropic)
Better than ChatGPT for long-form writing. If you're writing blog posts, landing page copy, or anything over 500 words, Claude tends to sound more human and less "AI-generated."
Best for: Long-form drafts, brand voice matching, nuanced editing.
Cost: Free tier available; $20/month for Pro.
Zapier (with AI)
The backbone of no-code automation. If you're still doing manual handoffs between tools — form fills to CRM, lead notifications, Slack alerts — Zapier fixes that with no code.
The newer AI features let you describe what you want in plain English and it builds the zap for you.
Best for: Connecting tools, automating lead flow, reducing manual tasks.
Cost: Free for basic; $20+/month for serious automation.
Tier 2: Situationally Excellent
Perplexity AI
Better than Google for research. When you need to understand a market, find competitor positioning, or pull together a topic brief fast — Perplexity is dramatically faster than search.
Best for: Research sprints, competitive analysis, staying current on a niche.
Cost: Free; Pro is $20/month for faster results and more sources.
Midjourney / DALL-E 3
For marketers who need images — ad creatives, social thumbnails, concept visuals — these are the leaders. Midjourney still produces the highest quality; DALL-E 3 (built into ChatGPT) is more convenient.
Best for: Ad concepts, social content, visual brainstorming.
Cost: Midjourney starts at $10/month; DALL-E 3 is included in ChatGPT Plus.
Notion AI
If your team runs on Notion, the AI add-on is genuinely useful for summarizing meeting notes, drafting SOPs, and turning bullet points into polished docs. Not a replacement for standalone AI tools — but a strong add-on if you're already in the ecosystem.
Best for: Teams already on Notion, internal documentation, meeting summaries.
Cost: $10/month add-on.
Tier 3: Overhyped — Proceed With Caution
7. AI SEO Tools (most of them)
There are dozens of "AI SEO" tools promising to auto-generate content that ranks. The reality: Google's helpful content updates have made thin AI content significantly harder to rank. Tools that churn out articles without real expertise or original perspective are getting filtered out.
The better approach: use AI to assist research and structure, but write with genuine expertise layered in.
8. Generic "AI marketing suites"
Platforms marketing themselves as "all-in-one AI marketing" often layer a thin AI wrapper around mediocre output. Individual best-in-class tools (ChatGPT for writing, Zapier for automation) beat bundled suites almost every time.
The Hidden Multiplier: Prompt Packs + Automation Templates
The tools themselves are commodities at this point — most marketers have access to the same AI. The difference is in how you use them.
Marketers who get outsized results from AI share two things:
- They have a library of proven prompts they can deploy instantly (no starting from scratch every time)
- They've automated the repeatable parts — so AI handles grunt work while they handle strategy
That's exactly what we built Flux for. The Ultimate ChatGPT Prompt Pack gives you 50+ battle-tested prompts for marketing tasks. The No-Code Automation Starter Kit gives you 10 ready-to-deploy automation templates.
Together, they're the fastest way to build the same leverage the best AI marketers have.
The Bottom Line
Stop chasing new tools. Master the ones already in the Tier 1 list, build a prompt library, automate your repeatable tasks, and you'll outperform most of your competition before they finish their AI tool research.
